Devotional: Unbreakable: Held by a Love That Won’t Let Go

Watch Online
Welcome to Today’s Devotional, Focusing on: Romans 8:35

Today’s Scripture:

35: “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?”
Romans 8:35 .

Paul isn’t wringing his hands or wondering out loud in Romans 8:35. He’s shouting a declaration with iron in his voice. This isn’t a question—it’s a war cry. After pouring out a vision of Spirit-filled life, freedom from condemnation, and unshakable hope, Paul delivers this clincher: nothing—absolutely nothing—can rip you from the grip of Jesus’ love.

He lays out a list of the worst-case scenarios: hardship, fear, rejection, hunger, exposure, danger, even death. He’s not sugarcoating the Christian life; he’s naming the realities. And then he throws a bold line in the sand: not one of these things is stronger than the love of Christ.

His love isn’t fragile. It’s not held together by your feelings or your faithfulness. It’s held together by His finished work.

When Love Doesn’t Feel Like Love

Life will test this truth. There will be nights when fear sits heavy on your chest, when you’re tired of being misunderstood, when the silence of heaven feels unbearable. Pain has a way of whispering lies: “God left you,” “You must have done something wrong,” “This wouldn’t happen if He really loved you.”

But Scripture says the exact opposite. The storms don’t prove God’s absence—they prove His nearness. He does not promise a life free of suffering. He promises that suffering won’t separate us from Him.

Think of His love like the deep root of a tree in hurricane winds. You might feel battered, shaken, almost torn in half. But that root? It’s locked into something deeper than the surface chaos. His love holds.

How to Stay Rooted in Unbreakable Love

  1. Stop Letting Circumstances Define God's Faithfulness
  2. The world says, “If God loves you, things will go well.” But Scripture says, “Even in the valley of the shadow of death, He is with you.”

Look at Elijah. One moment he’s calling down fire from heaven. The next, he’s in a cave asking God to take his life. Was God’s love absent? No. God met him there—with food, with a whisper, with presence.

Practice this: When life unravels, don’t try to measure God’s love by your pain. Instead, measure your pain against His Cross. That’s how much He loves you.

  3. Stop Letting Circumstances Define God's Faithfulness
  4. Suffering will come—that’s not a threat, it’s a reality. But you don’t walk through it alone. Christ walks through fire with His people.

Think of the aid worker in a war zone, the single mom trusting God for rent, the believer battling illness with worship still on their lips. They’re not superhuman. They’re simply rooted in a love that holds.

Practice this: Instead of asking, “Why me?” try asking, “How will Your love sustain me in this?” Watch how your faith shifts.

Pause and Reflect

Are you facing something right now that feels like it might tear you away from God?

What would it look like to trust—not in your grip on Him—but in His grip on you?

Prayer for today

O Lord our God,

we thank Thee for Thy steadfast love that holdeth us fast when the winds of sorrow blow. Though we are oft faint in heart and feeble in faith, Thy mercy remaineth sure, and Thy promise standeth firm.

Grant us, we pray Thee, eyes to see Thy nearness in our trials, and hearts to trust not in what is seen, but in Thy unchanging Word. When we feel abandoned, remind us that we are engraved upon Thine hands. When storms arise, be Thou our shelter and anchor.

Strengthen our souls, O Lord, that we might walk not by sight but by faith, holding fast to Thee even when the night is long. And if our hands should slip, let us rest in knowing that Thine never will.

To Thee be all glory, now and forevermore.

Amen.

You Are His. Period.

Tribulation may knock the wind out of you. Distress may cloud your judgment. Persecution may isolate you. But none of it—not even death—can undo the seal He placed on you when He said, “Mine.”

You’re not holding yourself together. He is. You’re not earning His love. He already gave it. You’re not fighting to stay worthy. He already declared you worth dying for.

He hasn’t let go. He won’t.
