Devotional: Before the Chaos, God Was There — And He Still Is
Welcome to Today’s Devotional, Focusing on: Genesis 1:1.
Today’s Scripture:
A blank page is intimidating. Writers know it. Artists stare at it. Dreamers hesitate before it. The unknown—the formless, the yet-to-be—can stir up anxiety.
But Genesis 1:1 meets us at that blank page of life and whispers assurance: “In the beginning, God…”
Before there was light, time, space, or form—God was. He wasn’t introduced into the scene; He wrote the opening line. His presence precedes everything. That means every beginning, every unknown, every blank page of your life is already in His hands.
God, the First Mover
Genesis 1:1 isn’t just the opening of Scripture—it’s the foundation of our faith. It declares that God isn’t a bystander in the universe. He’s its Creator. He shaped the heavens. He formed the earth. He initiated it all with purpose.
This is a God who brings light from darkness, order from chaos, beauty from nothingness. And if He could speak galaxies into being, what can’t He do in your life?.
From Abraham leaving everything familiar, to Moses hearing God’s call from a burning bush, to Paul being knocked off course on the Damascus road—every story of transformation starts the same way: God steps in. He begins. He leads. He writes the first line.
Beginning Again in Modern Life
I remember standing in the doorway of my apartment, cardboard boxes around me, job gone, future unclear. It felt like a blank page I didn’t want to face. But in that moment, Genesis 1:1 wasn’t just a verse—it was an anchor. In the beginning, God… Still.
We all face moments that feel like a fresh start—or a frightening one. A new job. A birth. A death. A long-delayed dream. These beginnings come with uncertainty, sometimes fear. But Scripture reminds us: we never begin alone.
Are you starting over? Facing something unknown? Don’t look inward first. Look upward. That’s not just how the world started—it’s how your healing begins. How your calling takes shape. How your peace is restored.
Following the Creator
Our culture says, “Make your own way. Build your own truth.” But Genesis 1:1 humbles—and frees—us. We’re not the authors. We’re not the source. We don’t have to create the light. We follow the One who already spoke it.
This is good news. You don’t carry the pressure to invent your own future. You walk with the One who already knows the way.
The God who created everything from nothing can do something new in you. No matter how dark, how empty, or how uncertain your beginning feels, God is already there—bringing form, bringing light, bringing life.
Start with Him. Trust His hands. Let His voice speak over your chaos.
You were never meant to write this alone. In every beginning, God is already present. Let Him lead.
Prayer for today
O Heavenly Father,
We thank Thee for being the God of every beginning. When our lives feel empty or uncertain, remind us that Thou wast there at the first sunrise, and Thou art here with us now. Speak Thy light into our darkness. Bring Thy order where we are lost. Create newness in that which is broken.
Grant us grace to trust Thee more fully—to believe that Thou art always writing the first line of something good. We place this day, this season, and this beginning into Thine everlasting hands.
In the name of Thy Son, Jesus Christ, we pray.
Amen.
